What is Teeth Whitening Based on?

Bleaching is based on a chemical reaction in which a ring molecule that gives a tooth color is cleaved by an oxidation reaction. The active part of the whitening gel, i.e. urea or hydrogen peroxide, decomposes on the tooth surface, allowing oxygen to enter the enamel and dental bone, which whitens the tooth surface. Only the color of the tooth changes, i.e. the structure remains the same. The degree of whiteness varies from patient to patient depending on the original color and texture of the teeth and the use of the gel.

What causes tooth discoloration?

There are many reasons for tooth discoloration. More common causes include aging and the use of contaminants such as coffee, tea, soft drinks, tobacco, or red wine. Also, the use of some antibiotics or tetracycline, as well as excessive use of fluoride during tooth formation, can cause tooth discoloration. In addition, accidents, nervous system deterioration, and old spots can cause discoloration.

When will I see results?

In home whitening, the results can often be seen after the first use. However, the best results are usually obtained when treatment is continued for 7 to 14 days. In the most effective products, the best results can be achieved even after a five-day treatment period. In most methods, the teeth will whiten slightly for a few more days after stopping treatment. The original color and condition of the teeth always affect the whitening result. Crest 3D White Professional, is the world's most award-winning product and it is also Finland's best-selling product.
